Obituary for Sharon Merle Brown

Sharon Merle Brown, 79, of Florence, KY, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, with her close companion, David, by her side. Born in Rhinelander, WI, on November 9, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Margaret Thompson. Sharon enjoyed movies, starting when she attended theater as a young girl. Her favorite movie was Dances With Wolves. The movie has all her favorite themes: Cowboys, American Indians, animals and a love story. She also enjoyed a wide variety of music, from Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Sharon had a fondness for Irish music and in particular The Chieftains ( A Change In Your Demeanor). Sharon came most alive when she creative. Her serious side was expressed in oil painting. Photography and rock painting brought out her sense of humor. With photography she delighted in finding an interaction of subjects that existed in her mind, but not reality. In rock painting she would find an oddly shaped rock paint an animal or flower giving the subject humorous distortions. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her son: Kurt Preisler and brother: Keith Thompson. Sharon is survived by her close friend: David Brown; sons: Todd Preisler and Mark Preisler; daughter: Cindar Preisler; brother: Ron (Beverly) Thompson and sisters: Phyllis (Art) Gressle, Joy (Randy) Stefonek and Trudy (Dan) Netzer. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be expressed on Facebook or at SerenityFuneralCare.com

This is what I remember Sharon:

“We were walking along the river in Eugene, OR. People stack rocks in odd formations in the river. Sharon spotted a rock on one of the stacks and wanted it. She claimed she could not get it because her clothing was new. I knew for a fact that she bought them two months before. I lost the argument and got the rock for her. I still have the rock to this day. She painted a bear on it.”
