Obituary for Malvina Mary Sheffield (Brown)

Malvina Mary Sheffield, 97, of Covington, KY, peacefully transitioned to eternal life on Friday, May 20, 2022. Born in New Orleans, LA, on August 10, 1924, she was the daughter f the late John and Josephine Brown. Malvina owned and operated Malart Food Market at Eighth and Greenup for 12 years before it closed. She loved her church, Mother of God, where she served on the Greeter Ministry, the Bereavement Committee, and The Legion of Mary until her health began to fail. Malvina was very active in the Covington Community and was affiliated with many local organizations including The Hurry-Berry VFW Lodge, the L.B. Fouse Civic League, the Kenton County Voters League, the NAACP, the Democratic Women’s Club and the IRA Elks Lodge, just to name a few. She also served and retired from the Northern Kentucky Community Center. In addition to her parents, Malvina was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 25 years: Arthur “Cookie” Sheffield; brother: John Brown Jr.; sisters: Velma Noguess, Margaruiette Matthews and Viola Dussuau and grandchildren: Danson Lee Sheffield, Shana Sherfield, Nassir Carroll and Jaelyn Day. Standing on her shoulders, Malvina leaves to cherish her memory sons: Arthur A. Sheffield Jr., Kenneth (Brenda) Sheffield and Manning Sheffield; daughters: Mrs. Brenda Hall and Mrs. Crystal Madaris; granddaughter: Mrs. Crystal Kenyatta and 19 other grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Friday, May 27, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. (Noon) at Serenity Funeral Care, 40 West 6th Street, Covington, KY 41011. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:30 P.M. at Mother of God Catholic Church, 119 West 6th Steet, Covington, KY 41011. Interment: Mary E. Smith Memorial Cemetery.
