Obituary for Herman L. "Ted" Harris

Herman “Ted” Harris passed away on October 23, 2022, in Cold Spring, KY just shy of his 92nd birthday. Ted is survived by his wife, Barbara (Brown) Harris, with whom he spent 59 years of marriage, his daughter, Sue & husband Scott Koehler, of Hebron, KY, and his two grandchildren, Adam and wife Laura Meier and Tara and husband Mark Bailey, of Fort Thomas, KY, and 5 great-grandchildren Collin, Elle, Hollis, Warren, and Quinn. He is also survived by Tammy Hannon and Dan Harris and preceded by David Harris and Cheryl Harris, his children from a previous marriage. He had an older brother William “Bill” Harris and younger brother Barney Roy Harris. He had numerous half-siblings including but not limited to his half-sister Pattie and husband David Cowan and half-brother Lynn and wife Cindy Harris.

Ted was born on November 26, 1930, in Oakland, CA. He enlisted in the Army in 1948 at the age of seventeen. He served in the 85th Infantry at Camp Funston in Fort Riley, Kansas until he was honorably discharged due to an injury while parachuting. Ted came from very humble beginnings but worked hard and had a lengthy career as a successful businessman. He was most known for his career in sales and marketing where he helped grow Sathers Candy into a national brand. This, along with all the candy samples, made him extremely popular with the grandkids and at Halloween. Prior to Sathers he worked at S&H Green Stamps for many years where his travels took him around the world. In retirement, he volunteered and served as a security guard at their local hospital. He also worked as a tile assistant for Horton Tile 😊. He had a passion for gardening and was blessed with a green thumb. Ted was a great family man, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He met his wife Barbara in Muscatine, IA and married her in December of 1962. They lived in many places around the country (coast to coast) before making the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area their final home. Ted was an incredible fighter, having survived leukemia and other serious health conditions. His family and friends will always remember him as someone who was funny, kind, trusting, and would do anything to help someone. He never met a stranger and loved to joke with everyone. A celebration of life will be held at his daughter’s house on November 19, open house format, from 3-7 PM, all family and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed on Facebook or at SerenityFuneralCare.com
