Dieter August Schildmeyer, 81, of Florence, KY, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at his home with his devoted wife, Mary Ann, by his side. Born in Hunteburg, Germany, on January 19, 1941, he was one of nine children born to the late Wilhelm and Maria Schildmeyer. In 1956, at the age of 15, Dieter traveled from Germany to America alone to live with his sister and her family. Shortly after settling in his new home, he enlisted in U.S. Army, where he proudly served as a translator in a tank division during the Vietnam Era. After Leaving the Army, Dieter went on to work his entire career as a Tool & Die maker for different shops. He ended his career after more than 50 years, retiring from the former Ancra International Company. Dieter was a devote Catholic and was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Union, KY. He was a member of the Catholic Kolping Society and enjoyed volunteering as a “Tuesday Worker”. He was also a member of The Elks Lodge 314. Dieter enjoyed woodworking in his free time and made beautiful birdhouses. His family meant everything to him, and he loved nothing more than spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dieter was preceded in death by his brothers: Heinrich Schildmeyer and Wilhelm Schildmeyer and sisters: Toni Wright, Hildegard M. Schildmeyer and Sr. Mia Schildmeyer. Dieter is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years: Mary Ann Schildmeyer; son: Shawn Schildmeyer; daughter: Stephane Tucker (Chris); sisters: Ilse Heidmeyer, Hila Düvel and Inga Pohl and grandchildren: Kindall Tucker, Klay Tucker, Hannah Schildmeyer and Sarah Schildmeyer. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 9:00 A.M. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 10272 US Highway 42, Union, KY 41091. Reception immediately following at St. Tim’s, a time for the family & friends to share memories. Later, at 4pm a Celebration of Life and final Prost at the Kentucky Local, 2030 Northside Dr. Hebron, KY.
